Guest guest
That's kind of how I feel about Deepak Chopra, too - I'm not taking part in the presentations, workshops, etc. in La Jolla b/c when I last looked, they were expensive, and as you mention, perfectly good "goods" are available elsewhere at more affordable prices. Including books for 1 penny - but he wasn't selling those himself, mind you. I guess if all that extra dough the MMY charges was going to feed the hungry and take care of the homeless, we'd hear about it. I agree that crossing the line to "worship" Amma or anyone is too much. I don't even like singing to Patanjali the way Iyengar instructors do at the beginning of classes. I recall reading an excerpt from the Christian Monitor, or some similar paper, in which the journalist was asking Amma if her followers worship her. It makes many wary. (Her response, BTW, was that she worships her followers.) I don't call myself a devotee, nor do I call Amma my guru. I mean, I was raised Catholic, and am American. I am lucky enough to have learned of Shakti Sadhana, and of Amma, through the channels available to me here. I consider Amma an amazing personage, an inspiration, and a guiding light and force. Haha I was baptised Catholic before I had a chance to choose what religion I would follow. A few years ago I called the church I was baptised at and told them that I was never really a christian or worshipper of Christ and wished to be considered an Apostate of the church. The priest was confused and asked me to call back a little later, so that he could speak to a superior....I did and he had found out that it was possible to be "debaptised" and all I had to do was write a formal letter to them. Now I have two certificates stating that I am no longer Christian. What a relief that is. I know that I am certianly not and figured that I shouldn't have my soul bound up by rites to cults that I do not follow. It wouldn't be fair to me or them really and is kind of a lie. I reccommend it to anyone else who feels that way!
