Dear Nelson,

If I may add something else to what I have already expressed, I would say that

in fact you got it right. At one time or another we are all forced to fight the

good fight to help restore the balance and the proper functioning in society

(i.e. Dharma).

Letting criminals step all over everybody as they like, in the name of

non-violence is a travesty of spirituality and ethics.

False accusations, injustice and immorality go against the basic religious

principle of satyam, “truthfulness”, of which ahimsa is only an instrument.

Gita is not a treatise on ahimsa, but it explains that ahimsa is doing one’s job

without selfish attachment, and as a service to the entire universal community,

i.e. God.

As soon as we eliminate selfishness and personal attachment from our activities,

even the application of force in a battlefight becomes balanced and controlled,

like a good police action or surgery.

Police jobs and surgery should be conducted ethically, with justice and for the

greater benefit of all, and only in extreme cases when they are really needed.

And above all, they should be applied without selfish motivations or personal

attachments (i.e. passion).

This is the teaching of Gita.
