Or, Rudra, who drives away sorrow; or, weep, [roditi] because the rain which comes at the dissolution of the universe originates from his solar eye in the form of tears. The Sruti {Tai. Sam], "He wept; becauce he wept, he is called the weeper [rudra]." The Sivarahasya also says, "The Lord of pasus[jivas] is called Rudra because he drives away sorrow." or according to the Ch. Up[iII.16.3], 'The PrAnas [senses] are the rudras, these cause all this [body] to cry out. "The BhArata says, "To please, [his parent] the son of BrahmA, the eternal lord of the universe, springing from his forehead wept loudly and terrible,"The VAyaviyasamhitA says, "Ru, means pain, or, the cause of pain, he who drives this out [dra].
