Guest guest
unmesa nimisotpanna vipanna bhuvanAvilih : The serie of worlds arise and dissapear with the opening and shutting of Her eyes. Since the eyes of Devi never close, the expression "opening and shutting" refer to the influence of the destiny of beings, or to her mere wish. The AjnAvatAra says, "by her mere wish the whole universe appears and dissapears." The creation of the supreme is simply the expression of His wish." KalidAsa also says, "The universe consisting of the seer, the seen and the seeing, with all its parts, existed in you before you thought [of creation]. At the manifestation of the universe at your will, your eyes open, at the destruction of the universe [at your will] your eyes shut." GoraksanAtha in his MahArthamaNjari says, "The moment occupied by the highest Teacher in the creation is the same as the occupied in the destruction of the universe" BhAskararAya's Commentary Translated into English by R. Ananthakrishna Sastry.

I'm guessing otpanna and vipanna are open and close, but that's as far as I get... >unmesa nimisotpanna vipanna bhuvanAvilih : The series of worlds >arise and dissapear with the opening and shutting of Her eyes. -- Max Dashu Suppressed Histories Archives Global Women's History http://www.suppressedhistories.net
Guest guest
This reminds me of one of Amma's bhajans that has been translated into many languages. Amma has performed this song in Hebrew, Australian Aboriginal, French, to name only a few languages. I first heard it in English in 2003, when I went to see Amma for the first time, and it caught my attention. It's called "Iswar Tumhi," which I think is Malayalam, and in English, the lyrics say: "You create this world by your whim/You dissolve this world by your will/Grace us with your compassion Lord/I have no one but you my Lord." , "NMadasamy" <nmadasamy@s...> wrote: > > unmesa nimisotpanna vipanna bhuvanAvilih : The serie of worlds arise > and dissapear with the opening and shutting of Her eyes. > > Since the eyes of Devi never close, the expression "opening and > shutting" refer to the influence of the destiny of beings, or to > her > mere wish.
