Meaning:

As earth, fire, water, master and blowing wind,

as specially stationed moon, sun, sky and aShTamUrthi,

as great virtue and misdeed, female and male, form of

others and His Own,

as yesterday, today and tomorrow

the Straight-holy-twined-haired Reverend stood.

 

Notes:

1. This n^inRa thiruththANDakam is also called as

uruththirath

thiruththANDakam as like shrI rudram it hails Gods

presence

in everything - good, bad, pretty, ugly....

Throughout the creation God stands inter-mixed,

together as well as separate. God stands in them and

also

as their Lord. Hence God is hailed "kaDavuL"

c.f. 1. dEvAnAm vasuH - rig veda.

2. IshAvAsyam itam sarvam - IshAvAsya upanishad

2. aShTamUrthi - eight forms (mentioned in the first

two lines).

3. n^erunalai - yesterday.
