Guest guest
Dr. Suryanarayana Murthy adds, in his 1962 commentary: "BhoginI [means She] who enjoys Bhoga or happiness, which here means BrahmAnanda; i.e., She is jIvanmuktA." Quiet strange designation for DEVI, nah? How can She be jivanmukta if She is giver of mukti itself BTW this name also implies that She can be reached through bhoga. Guest guest
Hi Arjuna: You write, re: jIvanmuktA: *** Quite strange designation for DEVI, nah? *** It is indeed. *** How can She be jivanmukta if She is giver of mukti itself? *** That is the right question. Now think about what the answer might be. ;- ) Aim MAtangyai NamaH

If your interpretation is true, shouldnt we also conclude that the word Yogini implies that She can be reached through Yoga too?
Guest guest
93 LOL i do not say there is a difficulty to speculate around why Devi can be called Jivanmukta. The question is this: IS She called thus in Tantras? I do not remember such issues, although surely it doesn't necessarily mean that She is not... , "devi_bhakta" <devi_bhakta> wrote: > Hi Arjuna: > > You write, re: jIvanmuktA: *** Quite strange designation for DEVI, nah? > *** > > It is indeed. > > *** How can She be jivanmukta if She is giver of mukti itself? *** > > That is the right question. Guest guest
93 Ur brilliance, Satish-ji, is astonishing . Yes, She can be reached through Yoga . Not gymnastic and fitness, but true yoga... There cannot exist any bhoga in Devi herself. Because for bhoga OBJECT is needed. And She is Totality, Purnata. Thus Bhogini can exclusively mean that She reveals herself in bhoga - which implies that through bhoga She can be acquired. Guest guest
Greetings, , "Arjuna Taradasa" <bhagatirtha@m...> wrote: >Yes, She can be reached through Yoga . Not > gymnastic and fitness, but true yoga... That is what I meant by Yoga i.e rAja yoga. haTha yoga(gymnastics in your words) can only prepare one for rAja yoga. The word Yoga cannotates physical exercises only to westerners and uninformed Indians. > There cannot exist any bhoga in Devi herself. Because for bhoga >OBJECT is needed. Please note that I am not interested in contesting whether above is true or not. My concern is if the specific word bhoginI is meant to be understood like what you say above. According to bhAskararAya the great kaula teacher and GYAnAnandanAtha, a renowned 19th century samayin and author of the shrIvidya classic shAradA catushshati, bhogini means the following, 1) The enjoyer - as per bhAskararAya. 2)bhoga means experience of pleasure. Being of the nature of brahmAnanda(i.e being brahmAnanda svarUpiNi) and since She is also of the form of manas(mind-heart) and buddhi(intellect) which experience that, She is called bhoginI. -- according to GYAnAnandanAtha. Above is inline with general advaita and various kashmir shaiva teachings. So there we have, both the Samayin and Kaula interpretations by respective experts, and they dont differ. One needs mastery over the vyAkarana shAstra to derive(or arrive at) independant interpretations. What you said might be true but if the word bhogini means that or not is a different question. To elaborate further: All feminine: jananI - one who gives birth pAlinI - one who rules - ruler shamanI - one who calms/mollifies - mollifier .. .. bhoginI- one who enjoys - enjoyer. Imagine applying your interpretation on the lines of bhogini to each of these. Rgds sa.
Guest guest
93 Satish, i never stated that bhogini literally means "one who is reached through bhoga" - of course not. I said that this name also implies that. And this is in accordance with Agamas: bhogena labhate mokShaM bhogena labhate sukham, tasmAt sarvaprayatnena sAdhako bhogavAn bhavet. There is no problem among us in this issue as i see . A.
