Guest guest
For those who may be interested in the latest two names being bandied about in the Lalita Sahasranama series, the copulating couple under Chinnamasta's feet in the Group's lower front-page photo (/) are Kama (i.e., Eros, Cupid, Lust) and His spouse Rati (i.e., Voluptuousness; Physical Attractiveness) -- a pair who are famously effective at distracting sadhaks who engage in super-strict sadhanas. The esoteric meaning of their lying under Chinnamasta's feet is twofold: (1) It represents the victory of transcendental yogic endeavor over material lust and desire; but (2) it also shows that material lust and desire are the root cause of the neverending cycle of birth and death, without which the Cosmos would cease to exist. The tale referred to in the above posts, of Kama being incinerated to death by a beam from Shiva's third eye and then revived by Devi, is nicely told beginning here: http://www.freeindia.org/biographies/gods/parvati/page8.htm

The third one is that Devi is manifested through union in love. The whole composition is an obvious glyph of Kula-yaga. Concider also the story of the birth of Chhinnamastika in Pranatoshani . Love is the law, love under will. A.
