Verse on Mother India

Hindus have increase their patriotism for their country by equating India as

their own mother and calling her “ Bharat Mata” or “ Mother India”. This

concept is unique because no other country is associated in this way by calling

her mother. You do not have mother USA or mother England or Mother Egypt. You

have only “mother India” This is the way that Hindus were made patriotic to

their motherland. And many shlokas or “verses” praising the Mother India were

written by sages. One such verse for the Bharatmata is given below taken from

A Obeisance to Bharat Mata

 

I pay my obeisance to mother Bharata, whose feet are being a washed by the

ocean, who wears the mighty Himalaya as her crown, and who is exuberantly

adorned with the gems of traditions set by Brahmarsis and Rajarsis.

Over the centuries, many Russians refer to Russia as Mother Russia, and I'm

sure othe countries have done so as well.

In addition to mother India and mother Russia, I have even heard the term mother

England before. It is important to remember that all countries at one time were

considered ancient Bharat, or a portion thereof, just as all religions come from

Sanatana Dharma. For those that don't know, America is known in the Vedas for

its beauty, and is called "Aindra Khande" (roughly, beautiful land of Indra).
