Guest guest
Received this list of questions from our homepage. Firstly may I just say how fortunate I feel having found your website. Initially it appears fairly non substantial but it is in actual fact a veritable priceless goldmine. Born a Hindu, but I am but a beginner on the path to Maa's sadhana. It is not as if there has ever been a time that I have not believed in the Divine but I have floundered for many a number of years trying to find what felt right and not much ignited any great love or devotion. It was not until about 6-8 months ago that listening daily to the recitation of SriSuktam (on recommendation of some Astrologer) has by Her Grace pulled me deeper and deeper towards love and devotion to Her. I have a number of questions which I hope you may be able to forward onto those Sadhakas who may be able to answer and help me and for that my sincerest thanks. The questions are: 1. Once a month I listen to the Devi Mahatmyam for 9 days. I was told that it should not be listened to at night. However, I have read on your website the recommendation of twice a week (Tue and Fri) night. Is it okay to listen to at night? 2. Is it okay to listen to the Devi Kavacham every morning. Or should it be only heard/recited at the beginning of the Devi Mahatmyam? 3. I am trying to learn the Devi Kadagmala and try and do the pooja every morning. Should it be in the morning or evening? 4. I cannot find the MP3 file of the recitiation of the Kadagmala on the website. Am I looking in the wrong place or has it been taken off? 5. Someone told me that prior to the Sri Chakara Pooja via the Khadgamala Vidhi, one must do a pooja (albeit brief) of SriGanesh, SuryaDeva, Siva and Vishu as they reside on the 4 corners ourside of the SriChakra. Is this correct? 6. Since childhood I remember the bar on pooja, going anywhere near the mandir etc, on women during their menses. I have never understood this and as yet no one has been able to give me any kind of explanation or answer other than."Its the rule" or "Its unclean". A woman's period is as a result of her ability to bear children.....her abiility to be a mother and propagate the human race...how does that make it unclean? So what are the dos and don't on this and just as importantly why? I know that I have asked a fair number of questions but like I said I am but a beginner and feel blessed that I have been touched by Her Grace. Till recently I have always struggled with the non-integral aspects of Hinduism....its easy for the head to say there is only the One...but till now it was always hard for the heart to say the same. I am very grateful for any help and guidence....many thanks in advance.

Guest guest
I'll answer this one. When rules do not serve, honor that many derive comfort from rules, and be compassionate in the face of their need for such comfort. Yet also honor the fact that if a rule does not respect humanity in its fullness, it does not serve. (I was just going to say disregard stupid rules, but I'm trying to sound learned > > 6. Guest guest
"Since childhood I remember the bar on pooja, going anywhere near the mandir etc, on women during their menses. I have never understood this and as yet no one has been able to give me any kind of explanation oranswer other than."Its the rule" or "Its unclean". A woman's period is as a result of her ability to bear children.....her abiility to be a mother and propagate the human race...how does that make it unclean? So what are the dos and don't on this and just as importantly why? I remember once during a Thaipusam, im like everybody else, standing watching the procession going on. Then suddenly a young girl tap on my back and asked me : "Akak can I ask you something". I said : go one."I am about to have my menses, any moment, not sure, and I want to go to the temple right now. Can I go in. What if my menses comes when im in the temple etc...." This poor girl goes on and on. I responses "Ssh! Do you want to go and see AMMAN'?" She answered yes!. Then "go in there and do what you have to do. Put all these worries away from you. If Amman does not want to have you around her when you're menstrating, she will stop you along the way.". I dont think so there is any logical explaination as to why. Somebody told me once that menstruation is like shitting or peeing, you dont shit or pee infront of the Deity. So the state of menstruation is considered "unclean". But you see people can come with all sort of reasoning. To me it goes back to your own personal belief. If you are being brain washed to think it as dirty or unclean, then it becomes unclean to you. You must stand your right to believe in what you think is right. If you think the statement is illogical and you cannot accept it, then dont accept. Why should there be any guilt in the first place. Guilt is for those who have committed a crime. You have not committed any. I remembered during my younger days, I have young girls have no shame about using vulgarity in their speech, but they feel so ashamed about their own body esp when they are menstruating. Its a bad even to mention about it. The whole thing does not make sense to me. Having said all that, I have received many hate mails from so called spiritualist who condemn me for this. "How dare you to go into temple when you are unclean etc...you have spoilt the sacredness of the temple etc.." What do I do? I just ignore them. To me they are the one having a problem and not me. Do not be afraid.
