Guest guest
Friday, July 15, 2005: The story of [the Marathi-language film] KALUBAICHYA NAVANA revolves around Goddess Mandhardevi of Satara, where a major stampede took place, killing thousands of devotees at the traditional fair in January, 2005. This devotional Marathi film, presented by Arun Kachre and made under the banner of Krishna Films, is a staunch devotee of the goddess. The film has proved to be a mega-hit of the current year by attracting masses of the western region immensely. Even though the producer credits the success of the film to the divine deity, it is his rational efforts which have gained fruits now. Producer Arun Kachre, in his early years, was a vegetable vendor with a strong inkling towards music. Later, he took utmost efforts to set-up his own cassette company Mayur Music, after which he joined hands with Jayesh Veera to set up Krunal Music company wherein he learnt the core of distribution, and thus increased his network upto remote and isolated rurals as well. He has penned about 2,500 devotional songs (bhaktigeet), folksongs, light music (bhavgeet) and lavanis. Kachre knew the knack of promoting his film to the rural areas where films were becoming extinct. Soon he took his film to major centers like Satara, Pune, Nasik, Nagar, Kolhapur, Ichalkarji, Solapur, Karhad, Sangli, Nipani and rurals like Pusegaon, Mhaswad, Kole, Aundh, Pali, Gargoti, Ajram, Maud, Kharsundi, Kargani, Shikharshinganapur and numerous fairs and touring centers where he could cater loads of crowd since September 2004. He monitored several offbeat distribution techniques like 85,000 posters in seven districts, distributed two lakh [200,000] pamphlets and brochures, erected a pseudo-monument of the Mandhradevi Temple at theatres to create a religious atmosphere and attract the masses. For the first time, Alka Athlye plays the role of a Devi. Others in the cast are Ashok Saraf, Prasad Oak, Nanda Shinde-Randive, Kuldip Pawar, Maya Jadhav, Makrand Anaspure, Surekha Kudchi, Suhasini Deshpande, Swapnil Raj, Seva More and Samira Gujar. Prakash Hilge, who has been the choreographer for more 50 films, directs this venture which has music by Manohar Golambare. It also has a special devotional song by Sakhrabai Tekale, the well-known voice for the western locales of Maharashtra. The film has cinematography by Samir Athlye along with SFX, Graphics and animation. It released in Mumbai on July 8.
