This radio program (On Point, from the U.S.'s National Public Radio)

offers just an *excellent* survey of relations between the U.S. and

India, and the ways in which India (and U.S. perceptions of India)

have changed in the past 10-20 years.

The story is largely through the eyes of Indians now living in the

U.S. The opening sequence ties the piece into the visit of India's

Prime Minister Manmohan Singh to the White House July 18. Here is

the official preview; the audio link is below:

(July 18, 2005 7-8PM ET): Indian Prime Minister Singh went to

Washington, DC, today to meet with President Bush.

Their meeting is taking place during a dynamic period for U.S.-India

relations, and for Indian immigrants in the U.S. who are

reconsidering their roots.

In the past decade, India's economy has exploded, especially in the

Information Technology sector.

Hear from several Indian Americans with different perspectives on

their American experience - and their relationship with the India of

today.

· S. Mitra Kalita, business correspondent, The Washington Post and

author of "Suburban Sahibs: Three Immigrant Families and Their

Passage from India to America"

· Suketu Mehta, author of "Maximum City -- Bombay Lost and Found"

· Gururaj "Desh" Deshpande, co-founder and chairman of the hi-tech

company Sycamore Networks. His donations have also made possible

MIT's Deshpande Center for Technological Innovation.

· Rauchika Dua, student about to begin medical school. Recently

returned from her third trip to India in five years.
