tanumadhyA : Slender waisted.

TanumadhyA is the deity worshipped in the country of KANci; for it is

said, "May Devi, TanumadhyA, the wife of Bilvesvara residing on the

bank of the NivA [river], protect me."

TanumadhyA is the name of certain metre. The PingalasUtra, says, "If

there is one tagana and yagana in each foot it is called TanumadhyA"

"Tanu-MadhyA, 'fine-waisted,' also means that there is nothing at the

cennter, which is of AkAsa-SvarUpa. It also means the deity who is

worshiped on the banks of the NivA river in KAnchI."
