Guest guest
Saras is lake and vati is one who possess. The lake here is the Brahmanrandhra from which there is a flow of nectar. Thus, the secret meaning of the mantra is that DEVI is the one with the Brahmanrandhra from which there is a nectar flow. VAsistha RAmAyana also says that Sarasvati is the flow of knowledge or impressions obtained from senses. The Thousand Names of the Divine Mother: Sri Lalita Sahasranama with commentary. Guest guest
it also means saraH swati iti saraswati = that which is full of lakes. That was the nature of the ancient sraswati river that is now extinct. It was on its shores, it is said, that the first writing of vedas and puranas took place. Guest guest
This is quite interesting. My first thought on the 2nd paragraph was whether, revealing the truth of non-duality to "sinful men" would, in fact, awaken them to divine grace. Or, is this a matter of protecting the self from those that, out of total unconsciousness, or mental instability, such as Amma's recent attacker, would bring harm to others? Next, I love these two comments: The > BhAradvAja-smr says "Sarasvati is she who ever resides in the tongue > of all beings and who causes speech, hence she is called Sarasvati > by great rsis". This takes Saraswati out of the realm of Athena, who sprang from Zeus's head (like it was said Saraswati sprang from Brahma's tongue) and puts her in ALL of us. I love that. AND The VAsistha-RAmAyana also says, "She is called > Sarasvati because she is the stream of sense-impression" Imagine that - the stream of sense impression. That is everything we perceive through our embodiment, and if that is Saraswati, that's beautiful. That is such an honoring of our embodiment. Thank you Nora, for pointing out the gem Mary Ann , "NMadasamy" <nmadasamy@s...> wrote: > Sarasvati : Why should we make a difference between a pot and a > cloth as their apparent difference is simply illusory according to > [previous]rule? Guest guest
"SarasvatI is that form of Devi who dispels the confusion or 'Moha' [cf. name 703 sarva-mohinI, 'She who confuses all'], and who gives JNAna of the Advaita or the absolute. Saraswati denotes Her power as JNAna Sakti." - Dr. C. Suryanarayana Murthy, Commenary, 1962 , "NMadasamy" <nmadasamy@s...> wrote: > Saras is lake and vati is one who possess.
