Guest guest
""It is ignorance to associate the Goddess Kali with the Kali Yuga. There is no such connection. "" Yes, I wasn't sure if he was implying that the two were the same word, or what. I find this error to be common in western circles... Devi Ma Kali is pronounced Kaali with a long "a" whilst Kali Yuga is pronounced Kali with a short "a" Can someone explain what each Yuga name means exactly? Are they not Satya, Treta, Dvapara and Kali??? ______________________ Check Out the new free AIM® Mail -- 2 GB of storage and industry-leading spam and email virus protection. Guest guest
I myself am unsure of the symbolism of the first three Yugas, but from what I understand, the Satya Yuga was an Age of Harmony, the Treta Yuga was when a quarter of the harmony of the previous age disappeared, then the Dvapara was only half perfect...then the Kali Yuga was an age of Corruption (? ) . Satya/Krita Yuga lasts about 1,728,000 years. Treta Yuga lasts about 1,296,000 years. Dvapara Yuga lasts about 864,000 years. The Kali Yuga lasts about 432,000 years. The Kali Yuga, from what I understand, started in 3102 B.C. Correct me if I am wrong...but is that how the ages go? As far as the symbolism goes, I really do not know the symbols of the first to third age, if I make any sense...I know the Kali Yuga was named after the Demon Kli, as opposed to the Goddess Kali. Thanks and blessings, An'ya/Christina --- swastik108 wrote: > ""It is ignorance to associate the Goddess Kali with > the Kali Yuga. There > is no such connection. Guest guest
We praise the Lord who has the Horse face, who is effulgence manifested in a material form, who is like a spotless crystal mountain that has spontaneously risen to this shape, who spreads nectar like radiation brightening all the worlds, whose neighing sounding 'Hala' 'Hala' is rightly regarded as the voice of the infinite world and whose voice is capable of wiping away all our grief. Hayagriva stotram Yes i am aware there some stories of a male embodiment of the Kali Yuga named Kali or kalimaya or some such name and.. Of course the devi is connected intimately with Time and the Planets: Whatever the two letters in the word Kala [time] signify that is My Body... day succeeds night because of the movements by rotation of the sun, the moon and the other heavenly bodies. (Tantrarajatantra) But the names of the Yugas have other reason they are all division of time (Kala) pictured as wheels inside wheels. This is what my teacher sri lokanatha had to say about the basis of time: That which is real is the respiration, say Sanskrit texts. A respiration consists of two halves, an inhalation and an exhalation. The meshing of time and astronomy and breath is the Kalachakra. Mahakala = Brahma = Time. The obstacles to Sun-Moon respiration, or equipose-breathing, are caused by conditioning. According to the Indian medical shastra, the ayurveda, food is of three types = impressions, breath, edibles. Just as without food we are starved and die, and without oxygen we suffocate, so without impressions we could not survive. Wrong food affects us, faulty breathing starves the blood of oxygen, lack of impressions causes physiological disturbance. Relating our own body to cosmology, our earth centre, our physical or planetary body, is sustained by food. Our emotional centre (Sol) is sustained by breath. Our intellectual centre (Moon) is sustained by impressions. Speech is breath modulated by the physical organism in various ways -- depth of breathing, muscle tension, shape of mouth, shape of mental impressions. The Indian measure is that 10 long syllables make 1 breath. There are smaller subdivisions of time ending with the paramanu -- this is related to the time taken to sense an impression. The goddess, or shakti, is the whole circle of the Zodiac, Time, the Sun, Moon and Planets, the Constellations, Breath (Prana) and Matrika. -end of quote- The Yugas are based on the following Periods: If you take the live span of a human being which is measured in the ancient lore with a maximum of 120 years which is based on the influence of Jupiter and Saturn cycles each measuring 60 years (one cycle is considered Aaroha that is increasing and the other Avaroha or decreasing lifeforce.) (likewise in inhalation and exhalation or heartbeat) These 120 years of a human lifespan constitute what is called one Kali wheel (This is the single time unit for the calculation of the Yugas) 1 Kalichakra=(1xkala-Period)=120 years, next unit is called Dwapara Chakra (=2xKali wheels of 120 years=240 Years, then follows Treta Chakra (=3x120) measure is 360 Years and Krita Chakra (=4x120) is 480 Years. Adding the units of all 4 chakras we have 1 so called Mahachakra. Adding 4 of these (kali mahacahkra etc. dvapara Mahachakra Treta Mahachakra and krita Mahachakra we have a Daivachakra (=light chakra pertaining to the energy of moon /sun like the breath and again considered as half Aaroha that is increasing and the other half Avaroha or decreasin of 12000 years each) A Daivachakra has 12000 Years. Than 36 which is thefull cycle. This number is based on the Drekkana Division what is the triple divison of the Zodiac signs 3x12=36 These 36 Daivachakras constitute one Yuga. The other greater divisons are mahayuga manvantara and Kalpa ANYAChristina wrote: ^<the Satya Yuga was an Age of Harmony, the Treta Yuga was when a <quarterof the harmony of the previous age disappeared, then <the Dvapara was only half perfect All divisons have an ascending and a descending lifeforce thats why the situation in the Yugas is either expanding or contracting or / entropic or ectropic. Nonetheless all four considered equally to be the wheels of the great chariot of the Godess of Time. swastik: > > Yes, I wasn't sure if he was implying that the two > > were the same word, or what.I find this error to be > > common in western circles... Yes it is a very common error-east and west, but that usually implicates to connect her with impurity disease and lowly egoistic behaviour evil rituals etc, that are considered characteristics of the Yuga, but Kali is not connected with the degenerations attributed to the Kali Yuga. , An'ya <seclusive_nihilism> wrote: > I myself am unsure of the symbolism of the first three > Yugas, but from what I understand, the Satya Yuga was > an Age of Harmony, the Treta Yuga was when a quarter > of the harmony of the previous age disappeared, then > the Dvapara was only half perfect...then the Kali Yuga > was an age of Corruption (? ) . > > Satya/Krita Yuga lasts about 1,728,000 years. > > Treta Yuga lasts about 1,296,000 years. > > Dvapara Yuga lasts about 864,000 years. > > The Kali Yuga lasts about 432,000 years. > > The Kali Yuga, from what I understand, started in 3102 > B.C. > > Correct me if I am wrong...but is that how the ages > go? Yes the Period timing is right-of course the last of the chakra Periods mentioned in the other posting the Daivachakra 12,000 yearsx36 (full zodiac circle) = 1 Kali Yuga=432,000 Years this is the shortest Yuga now again starts the same computaion as in the Chakra System : one Kali Yuga measures 432,000 human years The next Yuga is called Dvapara - Yuga which means the Yuga that lasts 2 Kala Yuga Periods Dvapara= Two Dvapara-yuga 864,000 years (2x 432,000 years) Treta Yuga measures as the name implies 3 Kala periods=1,296,000 years The Krita Yuga which means 4x 1 Kala Period measures 1,728,000 years. and so on till we reach the Manvantara
