Guest guest
I like to chant this shloka 27 times, facing the West, at dawn of Saturday (Saturn's day), and when his influence seems oppressive... Nilanjanam samabhasam/ raviputram yamagrajam// Chaya martanda sambhutam/ tam namami shanaishcharam// (dark blue and glowing son of the Sun, and brother of Death born from Shadow's womb I bow to the slow-going Saturn) I like to offer Shani (Saturn) a brief puja of black sesame seeds, when I can find them. Or blue foods. Blueberries, for example. Guest guest
Aadhitya hrudhayam will also help. As Sani is son of Surya, will have a favorable disposition on the worshippers of His dad. :-) Sanishwara Gayathri: Om kaagadhvajAya vidhmahe katga hasthAya dheemahi thanno mandhah prachodhayAth|| , sankara menon <kochu1tz> wrote: > I will do that. do not want any upsets now > Thank you very much > > Len Rosenberg <kalipadma108> wrote: > > I like to chant this shloka 27 times, facing the West, > at dawn of Saturday (Saturn's day), and when his > influence seems oppressive... > > Nilanjanam samabhasam/ > raviputram yamagrajam// > Chaya martanda sambhutam/ > tam namami shanaishcharam// > > (dark blue and glowing > son of the Sun, and brother of Death > born from Shadow's womb > I bow to the slow-going Saturn) > > I like to offer Shani (Saturn) a brief puja of black > sesame seeds, when I can find them. Guest guest
Are you sure? I ask because all the stories say that Surya and Shani HATE each other! Surya is very proud and self-centered, and Shani took after his mother, Chaya, and so tried to be as dark, slow, and different from the Sun as possible. -- Len/ Kalipadma --- ganpra <ganpra wrote: > Aadhitya hrudhayam will also help. Guest guest
Well, this is the first time I am hearing that. Will appreciate if you can point me to a couple of sources. Not that I am doubting your authority, but will like to learn more. Any how if it is true, then worshipping Sani as "Raviputran" might not please Him that much!! ;-) , Len Rosenberg <kalipadma108> wrote: > > Are you sure? Who hates whom, who love whom etc... Gosh! I think I just stick and just concentrate on Jupiter/Guru. Guru moves, I know I too will move, thought not sure which direction. Whichever direction, It will always be good.
Guest guest
Most of the planets, and most deity forms, appreciate recognition of their ancestry and lineage (even if they didn't get along with the family!). The shoka also mentions Shani's beloved mother, Chaya. Offhand, I'd suggest Dr. Robert Svoboda's translation of "The Greatness of Saturn" for everything you might want to know about the slowest planet. (Or read the original in Sanskrit -- I think it's called "Shani Mahatmyam"?) -- Len/ Kalipadma --- ganpra <ganpra wrote: > Well, this is the first time I am hearing that. Guest guest
Yup, learning which planet gets along with which, and which ones don't get along, is important in Jyotish. It's like a soap opera on a cosmic scale! Jupiter (or Guru) isn't exempt. His wife, Tara, was stolen by Lord Chandra, the Moon. Guru took her back, but he doesn't like Chandra much. And his best student, Shukra (Venus), disagreed so violently with Guru, Venus left the Devas and went to teach the Asuras! -- Len/ Kalipadma --- NMadasamy <nmadasamy wrote: > > TO me all these sound like some Dallas series. Guest guest
It is said mantras are "shabda pradhana". Intonation is important. The shani gayatri is typed with a TAMIL accent. In tamil ka kha ga and gha are are all ga. it is not kaaga but kaaka and gadkha is khadga. I am not being insulting but the tamil accent leaves a lot to be desired intonationwise. But then there is the saying "bhaavagraahi janardana" that Lord understands the bhava or attitude and does not care for the intonation. This is a problem with hinduism; rules (pramana) speak both ways. So you accept the pramana that suits you most. we see this election in many of the assertions by various people. If it suits them they accept one set and reject the rest. Len Rosenberg <kalipadma108 wrote: Are you sure? I ask because all the stories say that Surya and Shani HATE each other! Guest guest
yes astrologically Shani and sUrya are enemies. Any basic text of Indian astrology will show that. but then, Surya is sarwabhakshaka so adityahRudayam is a remedy for any planetary ill --- done properly. This is attested in "tricabhaskara" of Bhaskara Raya Makhi. Though he used Vaidic trichas for curing illness. But then few are capable of following the regimen he suggested. any upasana devatas is for that matter capable of curing any planetary ills. But specificties are suggested for ease. ganpra <ganpra wrote: Well, this is the first time I am hearing that. Will appreciate if you can point me to a couple of sources. Guest guest
yes. but remember all these are allegorical stories to stress something or another. In Indian astrology the square aspect or conjunction of Guru and Chandra results in what is Called Kesari and gajakesari yoga. It is said this combination dispells all planetary ills like how a single lion (kesari) scatters a thousand elephants. Sumilarly the conjunction or 180 degree aspect of Guru and Shukra results in what is called "atimAnusha Yoga" giving the person superhuman qualities and gets him respected and noticed in any crowd. Guest guest
Each of the planets/Grahas can be "remedied" through devotion to a particular deity. Different sources give different deities, however! This is the set that seems to work for me: Sun -- Ganesha, or Rama Moon -- Shiva Mars -- Skanda, or Hanuman Mercury -- Vishnu Jupiter -- Saraswati Venus -- Lakshmi Saturn -- Kali, or Hanuman Rahu -- Durga Ketu -- Rudra -- Len/ Kalipadma --- sankara menon <kochu1tz wrote: > yes astrologically Shani and sUrya are enemies. Guest guest
>Rahu -- Durga >Ketu -- Rudra This surprises me, as Ardra is ruled by Rahu, and of course it's the naksatra of Rudra. I can certainly see why Durga would help tho. On the subject of planets which don't get along together, can our resident jyotishis or mavens say something about dealing with them when they are lumped together in one house? Sun with Venus, for example, or with Saturn. There has got to be a way to deal with these energies as they combine...
