I came across this rather lovely picture on ExoticIndianArts.com, and

was rather struck by it:

http://www.exoticindia.com/product/WE66/

Does anyone know which Goddess this is? In her four hands the Devi

holds a Snake/Drum/Rattle (Damaru?) (Upper Right), A Trident (Upper

Left), a Dagger or Sword (Lower Right), and container with reddish

powder (vermillion?) (Lower Left). From the style of the picture, I

would say the Devi is of South Indian origin, but I'm not an expert.

I await to hear from the group.

It looks to me like Mariamman, a South Indian (Tamil?)

mother-goddess associated with causing (or removing)

various diseases. Nora has visited a Mariamman temple

in Kuala Lumpur. What do you think, Nora?

That DEVI in the pic is none other but Sri Mariamman herself. She

comes in various names : Karumariamman/Karumari, Muthumariamman, and

tbe most popular of which is Samayapuram Mariamman. A village deity

originally from South India have been growing in popularity.
