Guest guest
The Amman: The Shrine of Shakthi Shakti manifests herself as Thirupurasundari at this temple. Appar in his chaste Tamil renders Her as Vadivudai Nayaki. She resides in the Sannithi facing south and till today, only Kerala Namboodris perform her Puja. Sri Thyagarajar sings in his music composition about the greatness of this goddess in one of his Pancharatna krithis on Tiruvotriyur. He says that if one visits the temple and prays to this goddess on Fridays, one’s fervent wishes and desires will be fulfilled. Thousands of devotees throng the temple on Full Moon days to receive a darshan of this Amman. It is considered very special to visit three Amman temples around Chennai on Full Moon days, one of which is the Vadivudai Amman Temple. Devotees visit the Thiruvudai Amman temple at Melur in the morning, the Vadivudai Amman temple at Tiruvotriyur at noon and the Kodiyidai Amman temple at Tirumullaivayil in the evening. In the North prahara of the temple, Shakthi is present as Vattapparai Amman. The Sri Chakram installed and incepted by Sri Adi Sankara lies opposite the Vattapparai Amman. People believe that the goddess blessed Kavichakravarthy Kamban when he worshipped Her. Click to join
