Guest guest
Bija Mantras are embedded in all Saguna Mantras. AUM is a Bija Mantra. Serious Hatha Yogins use Bija Mantras with each asana. So, we use Bija Mantras, all the time as a matter of course. , "Mahamuni" <mahamuni@c...> wrote: > Len, > > I have never heard that getting mantra diksha empowers you to use bija mantras. Guest guest
In most cases, I've used bijas to express bhakti for admired deities. Sometimes I use elemental bijas to energize the appropriate chakras. --- Mahamuni <mahamuni wrote: > Len, > > I have never heard that getting mantra diksha > empowers you to use bija mantras. Guest guest
Not fully accurate. She has fully qualified and trained priests in her Brahmasthanam temples across India including Amritapuri. I do not know if these priests are brahmacharis / brahmacharinis also or not, but I would not be surprised if they are. not sure if any accompany her for tours across the world or not, likely not. , "Mahamuni" <mahamuni@c...> wrote: > There are no "priests" around Amma whatsoever. > - > Mary Ann > > Sunday, September 11, 2005 10:21 AM > Re: Important Questions on use of Mantras > > > Is the word "priest" applicable to Amma's assistants, swamis, etc.? > I ask b/c to me it implies a go-between that, frankly, may not be > reliable. Guest guest
Yes, that is correct. Those would be "priests". I forgot about those. No, they don't travel with Amma. Guest guest
Whatever works for you. My whole point was that don't get this confused with saying that Amma empowered you to do this or you were instructed that this was the case. Just my comments. TAke them for what they are worth to you. - Len Rosenberg Monday, September 12, 2005 7:08 AM Re: Important Questions on use of Mantras In most cases, I've used bijas to express bhakti for admired deities. Guest guest
AUM is the ultimate bija; it is also called the pranava. like with maha-mantras, AUM does not need any intiation etc. AUM is who we are (that's what the wise say atleast), so chanting AUM only fills us up with ourselves. But for other bijas (AIM, KLIM, KREEM HREEM etc which are used as part of mantras), it is said that initiation is definitely preferred, if not always required. (never sure of what is required or not; my thumb rule: when in doubt, better to get initiated!) , "just4amusement" <just4amusement> wrote: > Bija Mantras are embedded in all Saguna Mantras. Guest guest
"serious" hatha yogins? From my experience, each authentic lineage that utilizes Hatha practices does so differently, according to their tradition/Parampara. One shouldn't speak for all or say things like "serious" Hatha Yogins. There are serious Hatha Yogins that don't use bijas this way. - just4amusement Monday, September 12, 2005 6:46 AM Re: Important Questions on use of Mantras Bija Mantras are embedded in all Saguna Mantras. Guest guest
I'm not quite sure what your objects are with the term 'serious Hatha Yogins'. There are many dilettantes and New Agers taking Yoga classes who have never heard of Bija Mantras, never mind considered using them during their practice. The terminology I used was intended to differentiate these groups from the more focused and informed Hatha Yoga practitioners. If there are serious Hatha Yogins who do not use Bija Mantras I would like to know about them. As one of the main objectives of all Yogic paths is to restrain the ego, I suggest that from your willingness to use the tone that you do and your willingness to legislate what others should or should not say, that you have some long way to go in the effort to control your ego. Guest guest
Sir, I am always amazed when the tone of an email is completely misinterpreted to mean something different than what it was intended. I was not referring to the multitude of westerners taking "Hatha Yoga" classes. To me, these are just Asana classes, mostly for exercise, though some utilize some type of pranayam in a good or bad way. They do have great benefits, but they are not true Hatha Yoga, as I understand it. I am not sure what your experience is or your understanding of Hatha Yoga and what few lineages of Indian Sadhus stress such things. I just don't like to see things misrepresented by speaking for all of a certain group as you did. My ego is far from being restrained, but instead of attacking and finding faults with others in this way, you should direct your energy back towards yourself as this will be more helpful to you. Guest guest
Dear Shakthas, When my quest towards Devi started, I was advised to chant bija of my ishta devata by a respected siddha. I was told that just chanting bija alone or in combination does not require diksha or initiation and as long as it is not being done to hurt anyone or wrong purpose, they work extremely well & rather quickly. I know it worked for me because i came in contact with a guru who has made my quest a reality. Initiation is required when a mantra has words in addition to bija. -------------- Original message -------------- AUM is the ultimate bija; it is also called the pranava. like with maha-mantras, AUM does not need any intiation etc. AUM is who we are (that's what the wise say atleast), so chanting AUM only fills us up with ourselves. Guest guest
As you point out yourself, "My ego is far from being restrained". Apparently, it could not stand my identifying its inappropriate display in this thread and is not being pompous. While you agree with my assessment of many of the western approaches to Hatha Yoga, you have not responded to my query about which serious Hatha Yogins do not use Bija Mantras as you claim, especially in Pranayama. We can, I hope, agree that Hatha Yoga goes beyond asana/pranayama, must be based on the Yamas and Niyamas and must extend through Pratyahara to Dharana, Dhyana and Samadhi. We can also, I hope, agree that the methodology of Hatha Yoga is the creation, storage and free movement of Prana. Getting back on the track of this thread, which is the use of Bija Mantras, it should be remembered that we use a Bija Mantra with each breath that we take. Bija Mantras are a part of our being and our physical existence. They are not to be feared by the person who has grounded himself/herself in the eight limbs of Raja Yoga. , "Mahamuni" <mahamuni@c...> wrote: > Sir, > > I am always amazed when the tone of an email is completely misinterpreted to mean something different than what it was intended. > > I was not referring to the multitude of westerners taking "Hatha Yoga" classes.
