Guest guest
There was a message on my answering machine when I got back from the podiatrist this Wednesday afternoon. "Please call the Incense company." Apparently there was some sort of emergency at the offices in Utah that provide me with my incenses. They did not manage to mail out my order on Monday. Nor on Tuesday. Nor on Wednesday. The phone representative suggested he could get them in the mail later on Wednesday, or perhaps Thursday morning. "Oh, and there's been an increase in the rates of Express Mail," he elaborated; "-- the three-day delivery service for your order will now cost over $40. Of course, bulk rate is still considerably cheaper, and the package will only take five or six days to arrive..." "In five or six days I will no longer be in Olivebridge, and the convention I'm attending will be over!" -- I'm afraid I shouted into the phone. Mister phone Rep sighs, "So what do you want me to do?" "I'm not willing to pay over forty dollars for postage," I continued. "I guess we should just forget about the entire transaction!" Mister Rep sighs yet again. "I was afraid of that. Please forgive us this mistake. And if in the future you want to purchase fine incenses at the best wholesale rates, please think of calling us." "Of course," I lied, and slammed down the phone receiver. So I won't have any incenses to sell at the convention this year. And I need to find a more reliable source in the future. Suggestions? -- Len Mail - PC Magazine Editors' Choice 2005
