Manytimes we discuss Tara as a Buddhist deity. But I saw her picture in

shakti sadhana home page which means she is also a Hindu deity..

 

 

Is not Tare, the wife of Brihaspathi. Is not Buddhisum a hybrid of

hinduism. If so, then i feel it is normal to worship same deity by two

different sect.

 

Once I heard Tina Turner - Pop and rock musician, who is a Buddhist convert,

chanted mantra on LARRY KING LIVE SHOW. It sounded more like vedic

chanting.{DALAI LAMA had initiated her}She explained how mantra chanting has

transformed her from inside though outside world is same.

 

This feeling I too experience after I had mantra initiation from Amma - It

took me 6 months to feel some transformation - when I met amma, I was going

through some mental agony. Meeting amma was also accidental.

 

I was on a holiday - I saw postures of amma. She was to come to the same

place where I was stayig. I went just to have her darshan but ended up

booking for all pariharams and Lalitha Sahasranama. Had normal darshan after

sahasranama chanting.

 

While I was waiting for RAHU PARIHARAM - a lady next to me was narrating how

amma's grace had saved her husband's life. I had no knowledge that amma

gives mantra if asked.

 

I casually asked her Is it possible that amma can give me mantra? Then it

is history.

 

I know many had mantra initiation from amma or other guru's- can they share

their experience. That is why I say manytimes that GURU mantra has special

power. We need to blindly obey the instruction that follows after initiation

and it works internally. Guru's approach to day to day life may not be to

our acceptance but their mantra has special power.

 

Finally, i just want to add - I had been chanting LS for many yrs. In 1983,

I met Shringiri acharya, asked him to initiate me but he gave me only

blessing to continue. May be at that time I was not ready or he was not my

guru. LS has fulfilled many of my wants. but, internally i did not have

peace. This only Guru mantra helped. May be other have different view- i

would like to know their experience.

 

This shakti sadha by and large discusses LS, hence, I read and try to

understand the meaning of namavali. It works for me. raji.

Please explain what a Rahu Pariharam is?

 

Back in the 1980s I went to South Fallsburg New York

for darshan of Baba Muktananda. I kneeled down in a

huge line of devotees, and Baba bopped me on the head

with a peacock feather (passing on Shaktipat), and

gave me a card which said to chant "Om namah shivaya."

 

Much later (around 1999), Ammachi came to New York

City, and I went to her Devi Bhava for mantra

initiation. By this time, still devoted to Lord

Shiva, I wanted to begin a Shakti sadhana. Amma hugs

her devotees (no peacock feathers!), and I always have

strange psychic experiences when I see her. She also

allows you to choose your Ishtadevata. I was not

certain until I knelt in front of Amma, which Goddess

I wanted to chant to. When I said Her name

(surprising myself), the men assisting Amma said, "Oh,

it's unusual for a devotee to ask for that deity's

mantra, and we don't have it pre-printed on a slip."

So they had to hand-write the mantra, before Amma

whispered it in my ear. (I have since lost or mislaid

that paper with the mantra hand written on it, drat!)

 

I often use both mantras in meditation, often Baba's

mantra in the daytime, and Amma's mantra at night.

 

On another occasion, I had darshan of Shree Maa, and

she taught everyone to chant the Mahamritunjaya

mantra. I think this is all of my Gurus who have

given me some sort of mantra instruction.

 

Oh, yes, I had a dear friend called David Ganesh, an

American here in New York, who had lived in India for

several years. Before he passed away four or more

years ago, he taught me the Chamunda mantra, and quite

a few bhajans.

 

I've gotten a number of other mantras into my

practice, but usually from reading them in a book, or

hearing a tape. It's not the same power as geting it

whispered in your ear by an authentic Guru.
