Guest guest
Back in February of 2004, this e-group had a discussion about the use of dolls (specifically Barbies) to represent Devi. If you weren't a member back then or don't recall the conversation, you can read a summary here; it's an interesting discussion: http://www.shaktisadhana.org/Resource/Messageboard/Devidolls.html And now, on a much more frivolous note: Today, while bopping around on the Internet, I ran across..... Devi Dolls! Saraswati, Ganga, Lakshmi, Radha (with Krishna, of course.) Even a Durga with a fuzzy little lion. No Kali doll, though. Not particularly surprising, that. http://www.dollsofindia.com/gallery/Dolls/HinduReligionDolls/ Amazing! (And the prices are amazing too. Maybe stunning is the word.... No wonder the shipping from India is free.) And on the same website, we have: http://www.dollsofindia.com/gallery/CustomizedBarbies/ Barbies in Indian dress! No Barbies representing goddesses, though. (Perhaps a good thing ;-) I must say, Barbie as an Indian bride doesn't really strike me as particularly strange. But Ken in a kurta? Looks a bit surreal.
