parA-saktih : The Supreme Energy

In the body the tenth elementary substance [dhAtu] is called parA-

sakti. The KAmikAgama says, "Skin, blood, flesh, fat and bone, these

[five] substance are derived from Devi; marrow, semen, breath,

vitality [jiva], these [four] substance are derived from Siva. Thus

this body consists of nine substances derived from nine origins. The

tenth substance alone is called parA-sakti."

Or, the Sruti [sve. Up., IV. 8] says, "His supreme sakti is known in

different form" The linga Pr, : "Whatever energy is attributed to

any substance that is Devi, the ruler of all energized substance is

the great Siva. Those substances which possess energy are the

manifestation of Siva. The wise recognize the energies in substance

to be Devi"

Or parAmantra is also called parA-sakti.

ParA-saktiH means "the ultimate power." The Vasistha SamhitA

says, "there are nine tissues in the body, and the tenth tissue --

which vitalizes the other nine -- is called ParA akti. "ParAsya-

saktiH vividhaiva srUyate": Many are the forms of this Ultimate Power

(SvetA. Up. 6-8).

The Energy manifested in all Matter is She, the Power, the Ruler of

the Universe. ... All Matter that posesses this Power is Siva; and

every Power in Matter is known by the wise as Gauri. (Linga PurAna)
