The KAmikAgama says, "Skin, blood, flesh, fat and bone, these [five] substance are derived from Devi; marrow, semen, breath, vitality [jiva], these [four] substance are derived from Siva. Thus this body consists of nine substances derived from nine origins. The tenth substance alone is called parA-sakti." Or, the Sruti [sve. Up., IV. 8] says, "His supreme sakti is known in different form" The linga Pr, : "Whatever energy is attributed to any substance that is Devi, the ruler of all energized substance is the great Siva. Those substances which possess energy are the manifestation of Siva. The wise recognize the energies in substance to be Devi" Or parAmantra is also called parA-sakti. The Vasistha SamhitA says, "there are nine tissues in the body, and the tenth tissue -- which vitalizes the other nine -- is called ParA akti. "ParAsya- saktiH vividhaiva srUyate": Many are the forms of this Ultimate Power (SvetA. Up. 6-8). yasya yasya padArthasya yA yA saktiH udAhrta ... padArthe saktaya yA yA stAmstAm GaurIm vidurbudhAH The Energy manifested in all Matter is She, the Power, the Ruler of the Universe. ...
