(Both Hindu and Bauddha) Yogis like Matsyendranatha, Nagarjuna Chaurangi, Dattatreya, Gorakshanatha, and others have practised the methods of Kaya sadhana as it is contained in the highly secret alchemical teachings and they have attainend their aims by using these methods. Rasayana is not just about chemicals and herbs but it is concerned with the inner anatomy of the subtle body as well. Even if one does not practice Rasayana, Knowledge of Kaya sadhana i.e. Alchemy or Rasayana sheds some light on many otherwise incomprehensible statements contained in the Agamas and Nigamas and works on Hatha Yoga. Ultimately Sadhana can lead a soul or two to the Realisation that, to overcome the cycle of birth and death permanently, there exists a possibility to transform body and mind to a higher level while being alive, (jivan mukti) instead of taking birth and death again and again. To achive this transformation into another form "outer" Rasayana methods which are concerned with chemical and Herbal treatments were revealed because these prolong life and keep the body healthy so that the higher aims of manipulating the subtle body can be followed. This was necessary because the time you need to accomplish kaya sadhana can be very long (60-80 years or longer) Purifying the subtle bodies & their pranas and opening and smoothing the nadis, but also transforming the muscles tendons and joints, bodily fluids, (blood, semen/ovary, saliva spinal fluid) bone marrow, brain, etc of the physical body as well, are methods of inner Alchemy or Kaya Sadhana. The Bhavan Upanishad can be read as a manual of alchemy. (In this contexts for example the oceans mentioned are the bodily fluids) Hatha Yoga is a preparation for Rasayana. There is more Rasayana presents in the diverse "tantric" texts than one would expect if read superficially. Common elements of sadhana like nyasa bhutashuddi even prana pratishta or diksha and bheda and kriyas and bandhas are used in Alchemy these practices are at their core alchemical methods aimed to transform the sadhaka (and his body). In rasayana teachings sexuality is regarded in differing ways by different teachers. That the Rasayana teacher Matsyendranatha was a Kaula using real male female intercourse while his disciple Gorakshanatha practised alone, shows that both ways are regarded valid even in the same sampradaya. "Alchemy arises from the premise that there is a perfect equation between the human body and the universe - that which exists in the universe can be found in the human body, and vice versa. By knowing the essence of the substance that makes up the body, the essence of the universe is also known. Alchemists believe that this knowledge makes it possible to preserve and retain the essence of life within our bodies and thus attain youthful immortality. According to these spiritual scientists, the knowledge of immortality is identical with enlightenment - the cycle of birth and death involves only those who do not have knowledge of alchemy's immortal truth. The essence of life in the human body is ojas - the intrinsic brilliance that enables the stream of life to flow continuously until it unites with cosmic existence, consciousness, and bliss - sat chit ananda. Sexual energy (virya), which reaches its highest expression in youth, is the gross counterpart of ojas. Both ojas and virya are rasa, and rasayana, or alchemy, is the science of knowing the dynamics of ojas and virya." Guest guest
Thank U I did not degrade rasayana as a whole. However usual its interpretations are rather far from being Kaula, that's all. I am well aware of Tantric side of it existing. , "mahahradanatha" <mahahradanatha>
