gurumUrtih : Assuming the form of the Teacher.

The Sundari TApaniya Up, says, "just as the words, 'Pot', 'Vessel' etc

mean the same thing, so [the words]mantra, devatA and guru mean the

same thing." The meaning of the word guru is given in the

Saktirahasya. "Gu means darkness, and ru removes that". In another

place, 'Gu, existence [ ie Brahman ]and ru knowledge, because he is on

with the knowledge of Brahman, he is called guru"

The NityAhrdaya also :"one should meditate upon the Devi who assumes

all forms at will, as the guru"

She is of the form of the gurU.

Every GurU is SrI-LalitA Herself. There is no distinction between

GurU and DevatA, the object of worship. If a devotee is intensely and

unswervingly devoted, She Herself teaches that devotee and leads him

or her to the highest state of liberation.

Sahasranama, 1962
