gomAtA : Mother of kine.

 

That is the surabhi [the divine cow]. The other meanings of the word

cow, ie speech, etc should also be taken here. The Visva says, "go

means heaven, bull, rays, thunderbolt, moon, collyrium, eye, the

quarters, bow, earth, speech, and water." The AnekArthadhvanimaNjari

also, ".. mother, fire, face, truth and path"

She is the Mother of cows.

 

'Go' means rays, hence this name signifies Surya. 'Go' also signifies

Speech, hence She is Veda-MAtA, or the Source of Speech, or Sadba-

Brahman.
