The MahA-vAsistha, "she is called Gauri because her body is yellow" According to PAdma Pr., Gauri is the wife of Varuna. According to a KosA, Gauri means a certain river, a girl of ten years of age. The Devi Pr.,"She who was burned by the fire of Yoga, was again born of HimAlaya, as she has the colour of the conch, jasmine and the moon, she is called gauri." According to the PAdma Pr.
