Guest guest
Dear pelgrims in Shakti Sadhana, I am pondering on the following topics out of Saiva and Sakta 'mythology'. Mythology seems to be a special and elastic realm. One of my teachers - who is a master from the Himalayas (www.saivisme.nl) - once told me that Lord Shiva was a man (as a human being) who once lived in actuality. I guess thousands of years ago. I do not know what to think of this. But my question centers around the Nataraja. It is said that Lord Nataraja dances on a dwarf. Others say that he dances on the demon-child of Shiva and Shakti. I would like to know the story of this demon-child and how it came into existence. How can the great God and the great Goddess give birth to a demon-child that has to be killed or crushed later on? What is the implication for our life and especially marriage? Can a spiritual and sattvic couple on the tantric path together give birth to demonic energies? How to understand this and what to 'do' when something like that happens? Another question i have is about Lord Ganesha. According to folklore, Shiva chopped of the head of his son after being away for several years. Is it generally understood that Shiva is the genetic father of Ganesha or did Parvati give birth to Ganesha is a similar way as Maria did to Jezus in that there was no conception-fusion with the sperm of a man? If anyone can shed light on the above, i would be grateful. Thanx. Ralph Nataraj Cz.
Guest guest
My dear Ralph, I do not know about your first question, and maybe a lttle about the second question. Lord Ganapati was created, may I imagine sculpted, from the white dust on Parvati's body before she went in to bathe and had him stand guard. Therefore I accept he was not an immaculate conception like Jesus is written about. In considering the first question, from my limited reading and comprehension, I do not think there is a 'Hindu' equivalent of the Christain demon, or the Devil Lucifer for that matter ! I have read about Asuras, the various passages of the material to spiritual 'body", but if at all I were to use the term demon, it would be more towards describing qualities, in this case demonic tendencies as understood in the Christain world, rather than speak of a demon. The reason I say this is because all things are equal in the eyes of God, and I like to equate Hitler as Tamasic (Demonic) while Jesus as Sattavic (Holy), with again I would like to imagine, a bit of the others nature (Tamas/Sattava) in each as well, else how could they exist. Even Krishna apparently had to accept some limitations to exist on this plane. Please excuse me if I seem to have taken your question lightly, because I have not. This more so if you have enccountered such a stage/experience/vision in your meditation and/or practices. I hope you get better input than mine and find the real answer. With love, Red Ralph Nataraj <108 wrote: Dear pelgrims in Shakti Sadhana, I am pondering on the following topics out of Saiva and Sakta 'mythology'. Mythology seems to be a special and elastic realm. Therefore I accept he was not an immaculate conception like Jesus is written about. Well there are several stories as to the creation of Ganapati. The most popular of which was told in the Story of Goddess lalitha : when Ganesha born from DEVI's third eye.

Guest guest
I thought, I would add my bit of learning in dancing school about shiva.(Bharatnatyam an Indian classical dance) My understanding goes back to our mythological stories - where all god and goddess have had danced at some stage or the other - but dancing of Lord Shiva was most spoken. Dancing Shiva is named Lord Nataraja.- who is worshiped as a diety in dancing school. We were taught to draw two triangles - one pointing upward and one downward. -thus six sides are formed - and were asked to write OM NA MA SHI VA YA. one can see how it completes the entire picture- in otherwords ,here lies the meaning of entire universe in six syllabus. Now let us see how to understand the above meaning form his idol. Nataraja's raised leg - which in symbolic terms means HE GIVES ASSURANCE TO HIS DEVOTEES THAT HE IS HERE TO PROTECT THEM, SO DONOT BE AFRAID. FIRE on the left side - this can have two meanings. Fire can be used as a medum to demolish or to give light - in otherwords it means DISPELLER OF DARKNESS. He holds a drum on the right hand - which symbolises the RHYTHM OF THE UNIVERSE Half Moon on the right side represents INTELLECT Water coming out of other ends symbolises the EXISTANCE OF LIFE He has a tail on one end - symbolises the removal of MAYA. Snake around his neck - is a FERTILITY SIGN i.e air Finally - DEMON under his left foot represents ONES INNER enemies - according to mythology this cannot be eradicated completely but it can be only tamed. In otherwords - that symbol represents the taming of inner enemies. (this is for earthy people not for JIVA MUKTIES. If you have read so far - Lord Shiva or Nataraja represents the entire universe EARTH , FIRE WATER AND AIR without these basic elements a life cannot exist. In otherwords, CIrcle within which Natrarja stands points out that THIS LIFE IS ONE BIG CIRCLE WHERE THERE IS NO END NOR BEGINNING. Hindu's believe that ATMA DOES NOT DIE IT ONLY CHANGES ITS FORM. raji.
