Guest guest
My dear Vikrant, Should you miss lunch on Monday, would you eat 2 lunches on Tuesday ? The way I understand mantra japa means disciplining ones-self to maintain time, place and the number of repititions. (http://www.successconsciousness.com/index_000006.htm ). This is pertaining to the external practice. Internal observations, visualisations, pronunciations depends on the mantra and are equally important. Never disclose your mantra. The tongue is fire, and reduces the mantra to ashes, meaning benefit is negligable/reduced (I will not debate on this, this is something I read, and it makes sense to me). I believe, there are no short-cuts. If one has doubts about mantra japa, I think there are 2 options. Discontinue and find something more suitable or do the japa sincerely. I would however try to make sure the mantra is for me and I am satisfied by the rational of the practice (external/internal). I think a mantra is like 'program'. Say I want to become a doctr, I will go for MBBS, a businessman for MBA; but are these professions what I need to be; this is the first question I would seek an answer for before I took on a mantra japa. Again this is my line of thought as it makes sense to me, till I learn otherwise. All the best, With love, Red Vikrant <goodman1512005 wrote: if i had to do 1mala{108 times} japa of a particular beej mantra daily, and if i could not do 1mala{108 times} on some day(due to some personal reasons) then would it be ok/advisable to do 2mala's{108+108 times} the very next day, here 1 mala mantra japa for the previouse day(on which i could not do the mantra japa) and 1 mala mantra japa for the curent day.. is this ok and aceptable.. or is there any other alternative.. do these other alternatives depend on type of mantra one is doing.. whats the other alternative if the mantra is a beej mantra.. what ever solution the person follows i hope the person gets the benefit from the mantra meditation he/she is doing on a daily basis.. Guest guest
Again I am constrained to say it will all depend on teh Guru who gave the mantra and what his "sankalpa" was. We can always answer generalised questions, but as long as Guru is there his opinion/direction again prevails. It is my view that when one has broken the direction he should start afresh as if no japa was done before. Guest guest
Namaste. Isn't the highest form of Mantra Yoga a purely mental exercise? If you don't have access to your Mala, you can still do silent Japa of your Mantra in whatever circumstances you find yourself in. I know much of the time I spend commuting from school to work to home I spend in this silent fashion, and though it's not the same as sitting in front of my altar with my Rudraksha, it is still a purifying spiritual regimen. Of course, I will echo what others have posted, and ask you to consult your Guru. -Santo "Aum Shanti Shanti Shantih." >
Guest guest
It is always better not to miss japa. Sure one can do 2 mala-s -- no harm in it. If one keeps frequently skipping japa, no harm will befall him/her-- just that there wont be enough spiritual progress. What japa does is to inculcate divine samskAra-s or divine vAsana-s(impressions) in the mind. If one is not regular it will take long for progress and may stretch to many janma-s. years roll by very fast than one can imagine and one day people will find themselves old and nearing death. So I guess one should do as much svAdhyAya(in both senses of the term) as one can. It is good to ask one's guru always but yours is a generic(only that part where you asked about skipping -not the beeja mantra or other mantra part) question Good luck , Vikrant <goodman1512005 wrote: > > if i had to do 1mala{108 times} japa of a particular beej mantra daily, and if i could not do 1mala{108 times} on some day(due to some personal reasons) then would it be ok/advisable to do 2mala's{108+108 times} the very next day, here 1 mala mantra japa for the previouse day(on which i could not do the mantra japa) and 1 mala mantra japa for the curent day.. > is this ok and aceptable.. > or is there any other alternative.. > do these other alternatives depend on type of mantra one is doing.. > whats the other alternative if the mantra is a beej mantra.. > what ever solution the person follows i hope the person gets the benefit from the mantra meditation he/she is doing on a daily basis.. > > > Vikrant >
