Guest guest
Believe it or not, the original holiday was supposed to be based on a Saints day--St Valentine. I believe that the original meaning was something close to Bhakti love for God/dess and making that love extend to all human beings. Now I guess it is about making Hallmark Cards and Russell Stover Chocolates money. I understand that many might feel that American culture is out to destroy your traditional values about marriage and family. But I don't think so. The USA is out for one thing and for one thing only. MONEY. I even think that the greed for military power doesn't even come close. All the military operations they do is to make money, or to protect business interests. Even the churches tend to be about making money. Believe that. Most of the people who have immigrated to live in the USA since it began came to get money. This can be good or bad. But that karma of greed affects everything the USA does, either for good or ill. It is collective. If they think they can make more money supporting traditional Indian culture they will. All countries have a collective karma. What can I do about my country's? Try to be aware of it, and not let it rule my spirituality.
