The Supreme self

I recall an article by a member who suggested a visualization

exercise. He said all gods and goddesses line up to bow down to you

as though you are the supreme lord. This is a beautiful exercise but

it makes little sense unless you consider yourself supreme.

I think it is the individual that is supreme rather than any god or

goddess.

Yes, god or goddess can be supreme, only if you confer supremacy

upon them.

One can be a Vishnu devotee regarding Vishnu as the supreme lord.

Just like changing a shirt, the person may take shakti as the

supreme the next day. Yet another day the person may confer

supremacy to shiva.

All this is possible because the individual is supreme. Only he or

she is able to confer supremacy to devas or devis. The individual

has the power to strip any god or goddess of their supremacy at any

time he or she desires.

I wish to add another example on supremacy of the self.

Practitioners of black tantra are able to bind a gods or goddesses

rendering them helpless. This paves way for the black tantric to do

whatever evil deeds he has up his sleeves.

It is said that god and goddess can be easily binded but not the

supreme self. I have been told It is impossible bind the higher

self. This is another example that the self is supreme.

If one considers that god and goddess are supreme, then why can they

be so easily be binded by some street sorcerer ?

The self has a magical ability to become what you believe in. If you

use a kali mantra then you become kali. If you use a Vishnu mantra

you become Vishnu. Its all inside us. They lie dormant inside us.

Just waiting to be activated. Again only you and you alone can

activate it, if you desire.

Then another question strikes my mind. If the self is so supreme

then why do we seek god and goddess?

One answer that I can think of is love. Finding the higher self is

difficult because we go head-on with a 'sneaky bastard' called the

mind.

If you love a deva or devi as the divine or a friend or a guru or a

lover etc, it creates drive for you to go on. Helps you to pick

yourself up when you fall. It's love that keep you going on and on.

It makes spirituality interesting.

Love is a association. God and goddess are pegs. They are tools to

grab the sneeky bastard [mind] by its throat.
