Guest guest
I wasn't really aware of where these translations were coming from. I just knew that every day a few more arrived and I set myself to read them. They have been a tremendous aid to me in becoming more acquainted with the Goddess. So I want to thank you, NMadasamy. , "NMadasamy" <nmadasamy wrote: > > > rambhAdivanditA : Adored by RambhA and others. > > Others, Urvasi, etc. RambhA, HrllekhAbija. > > > BhAskararAya's Commentary > Translated into English by R. Guest guest
Rambhaadivanditaa: Rambhorvashyaadibhih apsarobhih vanditaa -- Bhaskararaya Rambhaa, Urvashi, Menaka, Tilottama are the four well known heavenly damsels Indra deploys for seducing maharshis. Even they derive their capacity to seduce with the grace of Devi, as Devi is the ultimate seductress (mahamaya). Compare: Gnaaninaam api chetaamsi Devi Bhagawati hi saa; Balaadaakrishya mohaaya mahamaya prayacchhati. Manu says in his smrti: Balavaan indriyagramah vidvaamsam api karshati. So great is the power of sense objects that even the wisest fall for it like Vishwaamitra etc. The heavenly damsels are a personification of sense objects and the ephemiral pleasure it holds out to finally result in pain. The name rambhaadivanditaa tells us that Devi is the ultimate remedy for one to overcome the temptation of senses.
