About the Foundation

 

The Tamil Foundation is an independent, non-partisan, non-profit

organisation committed to helping communities through research,

development and publication focused on Tamil Education at the

Primary Level. Tamil Foundations undertakes activities that result

in practical programmes that help students of Tamil Education

 

The Tamil Foundation traces its beginning to July 14, 1990 when a

number of professionals came together, discussed, and decided to

cooperate with each other to help selected Tamil Schools in Selangor

and Kuala Lumpur. Almost 13 years later, on February 14, 2003, the

Foundation was formally registered.

 

Our mission is to empower communities through Tamil Education and

Tamil Education centered networking by developing practical

programmes grounded on rigorous research and analysis, and by

disseminating the gathered knowledge.

 

We aim to do this by being the leading independent Tamil educational

research and development body in Malaysia, closely link with parent-

teacher associations nationwide, with a diversified portfolio of

research, information and development activities that snapns all

sectors of Tamil education and, to the extent needed, Tamil language

and culture.

 

Our visions for the next five years is to establish ourselves as an

energetic, forward-and outward-looking educational research and

development body that uses Tamil education to reinvigorate

communities. We shall develop innovative pilot programmes for Tamil

education, and shall endeavour to influence both policy-making and

practice by actively participating in educational debates. We want

to be the organisation to which those with educational interest

first turn to for information and advice on Tamil education in

Malaysia.

 

At the same time, in order to create balanced, creative and

resourceful individuals, we place equal emphasis on English,

Science, Arts and Culture and our diversified programmes are

testimony to this.

 

 

 

There are 524 Tamil Schools in Malaysia. They protect and promote

our language, Cultura, art and identity. Over 100,000 kids receive

their education there. For them, a decent education is the only

honest out of poverty.

 

Yet our schools remain backward. The face enormous challenges. We

could do something about it. We must unite. A deluge is but many

drops together!
