tryambikA : Three-eyed

 

The Dev. Pr says, "The moon, the sun and the fire are the three eyes

of Devi, hence she is called by sages three-eyed"

 

Tri, BrahmA, Visnu and Rudra, ambA, mother [ie, mother of BrahmA, etc]

She has three eyes: They are the Sun, the Moon, and Fire.

 

Alternatively, this name denotes that She is the Mother of Brahma,

Vishnu and Rudra.
