Guest guest
Namaskar, I have an ibook and I cannot read sanskrit. I tried putting the following fonts in my fonts library and restarting, but nothing is happening. sanskrit99.ttf paitr.ttf paiti.ttf paitb.ttf paitbi.ttf What can I do? What can I expect? In my IM I do not see devanagari, just wierd typing, if I copy and paste to text edit, it doesn't become davanagari. I'm lost, really really really lost. Help is appreciated blessings, pr
Guest guest
Greetings, I do not fully understand Ur problem. What do U want to "happen"? If U want to use devanagari for IM, perhaps U should use unicode font. In MacOSX there is default font for devanagari - Devanagari MT.ttf. Then U should switch to devanagari keyboard (System Preferences>International>Input Menu). However i do not see any need in chatting in sanskrit LOL. Fonts U had put into Ur system are windows truetype, which will work of Mac (though Mac-versions or OTF are preferred). Sanskrit99 is available both as FFIL (Mac truetype) and as OTF - online for free. Search with google.com This font can be used in any office application (be it TextEdit, Pages, AppleWorks or Word) as well as in professional applications for makeup, like InDesign or Quark. Hope U have basic knowledge and will be able to find a way to select a desired font in application U use . BTW it is strongly suggested NOT to put many fonts into any of 3 system font folders. Better use special application like FontExplorer by Lynotype. It is FREE and can be downloaded from www.macupdate.com Best regards, A , "prainbow61" <paulie-rainbow wrote: > > Namaskar, > > I have an ibook and I cannot read sanskrit. Guest guest
Thanks for responding, My problem is that when I go to a site with devanagri script it is nonsense. When devanagri is posted, it comes through as roman nonsense. When someone put some sanskrit in an IM message, I see roman nonsense. So...nothing but roman in my browser and my IM. When I copy and paste into text edit, nothing changes, it is not recognized. I would like to see sanskrit on my mac somehow some way. I looked up in google. I went to the page on mac sanskrit fonts. I downloaded the specified .ttf files. I put them in the library/fonts folder. I restarted my computer. No change. Websites generally use (and should use) unicode encoding for devanagari. To see that in Ur browser U have to have Devanagari MT installed (it IS included in package of MacOSX, should be placed in library/fonts or user/library/fonts), and use Safari or Shiira browser. DO NOT try to view unicode pages with any other Mac browser (Opera, Camino, SeaMonkey), it won't work in most cases. I do not know about iCab and OmniWeb - haven't checked. I am not quiet sure about IM - if someone sends me a message in devanagari i will be able to say if it works. Maybe U have to set UTF encoding in Ur client (Adium, Proteus or whatever). To type Urself in devanagari U have to activate devanagari keyboard - i already told that. > > So...nothing but roman in my browser and my IM. Three questions: Which OS do U use? Which browser? See if U have Devanagari MT.ttf font in system. Other may not work (Sanskrit99 is not unicode for example). > > When I copy and paste into text edit, nothing changes, it is not > recognized. U are supposed to copy-paste, then select the text and choose needed font (for example, Sanskrit99 or Xdvng) - that font which was used by one who typed. > > I would like to see sanskrit on my mac somehow some way. There are many ways. Why don't U type in devanagari with keyboard activated? If U still encounter problems, answer exactly to my points. Then U may have solution. Also, google.com/mac rules . There are many mac-user groups in the web, U may ask there as well. Indian also use Macs, they may be of better help (myself i do not need devanagari for messaging). > > I looked up in google. These fonts U may simply use in Ur text processor, like TextEdit. U launch TextEdit, press Command+T and get a window with font options. In "all fonts" U select Sanskrit98 or whatever U need. Then U type — it comes devanagari. For using unicode U have to activate devanagari (not roman) keyboard. Hope this helps. Just do step by step what i have said. Also, download Linotype FontExplorer and activate ALL extra fonts with it. Do not burden OS folders with unnecessary stuff, it slows down the machine. And U have G4, which is not as powerful as PM Quad, right?

Guest guest
No, there is none — and guys from Omkarananda Ashram aren't going to nake it. For them seemingly neither MacOS nor Linux exist... I emailed them once, and they replied that no Mac version is in their plans. Sad fact, that two most advanced platforms are not supported. , sankara menon <kochu1tz wrote: > > why not try downloading Itranslator.
