Very recently I was initiated. And was given mantra for MahaaKaali.

Is it OK to put picture of Kaali (where she is standing on the corpse

of Shiv?) on the wall in front, while chanting the rounds of maala?

Thanks

Forgive me for I am not a learned fellow ,

But if I may share ,since you are initiaited it would be good to refer to your

master......

It would also be good to check with your initiator which form (picture) is

aligned to the mantra used

If the initiator have left the mortal coil, then brothers or sisters in that

spritual tradition ( sampradaya) or family (kula) would be a good person to talk

to first

If all this is not available than please consider what I share with a pinch of

salt and after consideration of other opinions at this forum

Often Mahakali dhyana mantra shares her with 10 weapon or head (i.e.Khadgam

cakre gadesu...)you could obtain various dhyana mantra from Tantra Sara but it

could also be otherwise

Most of Kali depiction in south ( Thillai Kali, Madurakali ,Vekkali etc) would

not have Shiva under Her

From west ,SmasanaKali , Raktakali and Dakshinakali depiction would usually

have Siva at Her holy feet but at the same time Chamundeswari of Mysore again do

not have such depiction.............

Really sometimes picture do not neccesarily reflect the image for your

practice as well for example Dakshina Kali dhyan mantra says she is sitting on

Siva but the popular depiction she is standing on Shiva.

So my two cents worth is to talk to your initiator .........................

Jai Maa!!!

But while U do japa eyes are normally kept close.

In fact, U are supposed to get all instructions from Ur guru.

Do allow me to interrupt this discussion. I am trying to understand

this. You said you got initiated and given mantra for Mahaakaali.

Who initiate and give u the mantra? Your guru right? So should be

right so, that you should go back to your guru and ask these

questions? Didnt the guru gives u specific instruction as how to do

the japa, when, how many times etc.. .even if the guru forgot you

should go back and ask. Why are you asking a complete stranger?

Sometimes my guru [i think] does that. Purposely omit the details to

see weather im paying attention.

Sounds logical, yet, maybe not so. When I was fourteen I met a wandering guru

who gave me Dattatreya mantra. I never saw him again. Nor would I recognize him

even now 27 years later. It may have been Guru Datta, but he was skinny and

young. There's no way of knowing.
