The Bhavisyottara Pr, says, "He who makes a vow to any god or to goddess, all is for the delight of Siva and Devi who are the creators of the world. Every devotional discipline practiced goes to please Her. Priya also refers to the result of yAga or yajNa, which is of the nature of Ista, or Bliss. VratA means food. Thus the name means "the fruits of yAga," i.e., the bliss that results from sacrifice is Hers as food. - Dr. C.
