kAvyakalA : The poetic art.

KAvya, the work of poets, which is divided into various ways, namely

NAtaka, Sattaka, BhAna, Dima, Prahasans, etc... and also described in

the Agni and other Prs.

The Visnu. Pr. says, "Whether they praise him by means of poems or by

means of songs, all the words from part of the body of the great

Visnu, who assumed the form of sound"

or KalA, the inspiration which produces poetry; because as described

in the Tantras variously, a certain kind of meditation confers the

power of poetical composition; or kAvya, SukrAcArya, kalA called

AmrtasaNjivini [the power of conferring immortality].

BhAskararAya's Commentary

Translated into English by R. Ananthakrishna Sastry.

She is the inspiration for all true literary artforms, such as

drama, etc. In fact, she is Literary Art itself.

"nAnrsiH kurute kAvyam: None except a seer of Divinity ever composes

a literary masterpiece."

- Dr. C. Suryanarayana Murthy, Commentary on the Sri Lalita

Sahasranama, 1962
