Guest guest
alignment of iyengar yoga only external to those who cant find their way inside. direct experience with him reveals that his concern is the free flow of consciousness in the nadis, not simply structural integrity. could it be that the one requires the other? why is the first ashtangavinyasa series yoga chikitsa? isnt there enough divisiveness in the world? ashtangavinyasa is a fantastic practice form, iyengar a method for learning the integrity of the postures. they are not, on my mat at least, separate though they may be defineably different. most iyengar teachers seem unable to distinguish between his proscriptive and descriptive verbalisations. when you can, and you have experienced the bandhas it becomes clear that alignment and the bandhas are not two seperate things unless you make them that way. what happens to the perineum when you hit the inner ankles back in uttanasana? what happens to the floating ribs, lumbar spine, groins and sacrum when you engage the bandhas? what happens to the bandhas when you spread the heels outwards in urdvadanurasana? what are the bandhas for? can you feel that? if a guru is like a wife, maybe a yoga teacher is like a friend? is iyengar a guru? is pattabhi jois? or are they great yoga teachers? my thanks to them both for enriching my life.
