Guest guest
Hello, I'm a new member, and I have read alot on various web pages about the 6 series of postures in Ashtanga. I would be interested to see a complete set of diagrams or pictures of the postures in all 6 series. Does anyone know if there is a site showing these? Guest guest
Nobody has been taught the 6th series.PK Jois is first going to teach it to Sarath, the inheritor of the lineage, when he is ready.
Guest guest
javra, thanx, but...wot if someone else gets ready first? personally not that impressed or interested but then i cant even remember what the first series is, or was. no wonder im half dead, but then again the other half of me is well alive. still its not gonna be me. so why should i care about a series that didnt used to even exist when i started. how about you? would we inherit the lineage? why do monkeys have incandescent minds and light fingers? maybe blow an aromatic sweat with you one day?.... Guest guest
The 6th series was known by a former name: "advanced B"(series 5 & 6) and several people know it. I learned it from the venerable David Williams in Maui and practiced it with Sri KP in Mysore. This was pre "advanced A" being called the 3rd series with the latter part of "A" disappearing. Sharat watched the B series even though he was a young lad. When asking Guruji about additional postures beyond this "B"series, he laughed and said "why?".

Laughter seems to have also been dropped as an integral part of the practice by many of the new "teachers". Sri KP always laughed at it all. Yours in yoga.
Guest guest
Based on the replies to this one thing is certain. There is a lot of "misinformation" floating around out there with regard to Yogas history. Lets all try to be CAREFULL in what we say, and wether we know it to be true.

And i agree 100% with takeitup_2000 lets not forget to laugh and love too! Anyway try an Iyengar class if you don't want to laugh! (no offence meant to any Iyengaries out there)
Guest guest
That would mean the David Swenson video with Advanced A and B has all the postures in it(3rd,4th,5th and 6th series). But I thought PK Jois has added more postures in the new 6th.
Here's what Richard Freeman said about the 6th in a recent interview (1998):"Q: Is there a sixth series? A: There is, but it is practically a mythological series.Pattabhi Jois has it written in an old notebook.I don't know if I want to learn it.Fifth series is challenging enough. No one to my knowledge does it.Perhaps at one point Pattabhi Jois could do all of the series....."

By the way, has anybody seen the 3rd Series Solana Beach video (by
Sewell) with PK Jois? It is different than D. Swenson's 3rd series video.
Guest guest
With all due respect to Richard Freeman.., He wasn't practicing this yoga until the 80's. Richard is in the video of Solana Beach in 89 to my knowledge has never been through the "B" series. There is a video of Guruji and some of his original crew in Kona in '86, which is from Sri KP's original list. I haven't viewed David's video, but hope to post the 3rd series from a syllabus handed to me by Guruji long ago.

KP Manju is also a keeper of the orginal series. Anyone lucky and strong enough to hang with him long enough to prove to him you are serious will benefit greatly.

The teachers are out there, look into their eyes and if you like what you see, check it out!

Love & Light.
