Guest guest
Thanks, Homer and others, for identifying yourself as parents...as the mom of an almost 2 year old, I often find myself struggling to practice 6 days/week given the pace of life with a toddler. Fortunately, I have a very understanding spouse who loves when I practice because I am so happy and loving afterwards. The one question is...how can folks like us ever find our way to Mysore? Has anyone here done it with a younger child?

Thanks also to those in this club...I look forward to learning more from all of you. Guest guest
I have thought about going to Mysore too. As I have two children (4 and 2 1/2) it seems nearly impossible. Are there any experiences going there with the whole family.

Besides, doing Yoga with little children around has so many experiences for parents other people can't share. Fore example when your little daughter who is just able to walk comes in and sits on your face with her nappy while you are doing shoulderstand. That sometimes brings you on the point where you tend to forget everything you learned about Ahimsa.

Namaste
Dirk
Guest guest
I love the image of the toddler and the nappy! It certainly brings back memories. My kids are now 9 and 10 and I have been doing yoga postures around them since they were born, although all my ashtanga is done at three outside classes a week (and I also attend a couple of "soft" yoga classes). Finding a space in the day - and the house - would be impossible, even though my wife is very supportive, and it is very important to me to spend as much time as I can with the children. I have tried getting them interested but they have a short attention span (for yoga - not for other things).

What is more horrifying is that they are both so stiff already - neither can touch their toes - even though they are both very active (my son at football and my daughter at dancing).

I only hope they come to yoga later on - but certainly don't wantd to push them. Guest guest
I love when I reach my breaking point, and in the middle of a pose I yell "THAT'S IT! NAPTIME!!!" Both girls (4 and 1) look at me like "Geez, yoga sure ain't working for her, is it?"

Lu, I'm ready when you are! <Lord, what have I agreed to?> :oD

Love,

Celeste
Guest guest
I have a son and daughter, 9 & 7 years old... they have been around yoga for as long as they can remember, watching me practice, watching the _Yoga for Kids_ tape over and over, & constantly criticizing my poses. I have specifically taught them what to do to adjust me in certain poses. And of course they sometimes get silly and goofy, crawling under me in downdog. Actually that has been good to hone concentration... at times like that I think of that great line in the Tibetan Book of the Dead, "although I am being chased by a pack of 100 wild dogs, I will not forget my practice."
