I don't mean to harp on the knee thing but have

found a method of treatment that took care of a similar

problem I had a while ago.

When I had started to

take Astanga seriously as my practice my hips were not

fully open. Subsequently that made any asana dealing

with half or full lotus frustrating. One day while

practicing at home I was getting into Marichasana B my right

knee said "No" and my ego said "yes."
My knee

replied "POP!" and then there was silence followed by

excruciating pain. My knee swelled up to the size of a

grapefruit and I was limping around for the next six months

having learned a valuable lesson about balance.
That

did not stop me from continuing my practice and

plugged away until my knee got better. I have learned

that linaments, ligaments and tendons do repair

themselves in time. Here's what I did which led to an

amazing recovery.
1. Cut down on sugar in my diet.

Since sugar tends to stiffen the joints.
2.Sit in

virasana everyday for at least a half an hour even when it

"hurt." Believe me it was a "good" hurt. It helps open

the knees and aligns the legs maximizing stability in

the hips. Smile when it hurts and think good

thoughts. Your body hears everything!
3.Massage the

knees with warm oil like neem, sesame, or Mahayana

oils.(do this before step #2)
4.Take nice warm baths

every night and "visualize" those hips openning up.

Visualization is a graet tool for healing. If you have the time

learn Reiki, which also helps.
5.Practice those

standing asanas to get strength back in the knees by

staying in them a little longer than usual.
6.Drink

hot tea preferably with turmeric in it for

flexibilty.
7.Elevate you legs whenever

possible.
8.Avoid surgery at all costs. Your body will heal itself

if you let it.
Hope that helps.

namaste
