Guest guest
Patience and practice. I'm not comfortable hearing that you're being pushed until you pop. Popping can be normal release of gases in the joints but forced popping can be dangerous. I'd back-off and work more gently with your given flexibility level. It could take years to adjust your range. Maybe more length in the muscle would loosen the joint area to gain more rotational range.

I have a similar problem with my right hip. My left hip opened up when I concentrated on the lengthening the hamstring but my right hip isn't cooperating. I've figured out it's because I have scar tissue buildup on my right groin due to a skiing accident years ago. I was looking in the wrong place..the hip and not in the muscle attached to the hip. I, too, get an occasional sore pop when in trikonasana on that side and can extend further but I don't think it's advisable to push into it. Instead, I am concentrating on realigning and lengthening the hamstring and groin.

Good luck,
Yeshe
Guest guest
Hi ...

I should clarify, just because I may not have put it quite correctly ... my teacher doesn't push me with the specific intent of popping that hip ... he's just easing me into the stretch, and as he helps me lean ever further forward, my hip'll just go *pop*!

I happen to have decent flexibility in the forward bend direction, so it doesn't really feel alarming when he does it. the popped hip feels sorer than the other on the two occasions when it happened, but it's the nice kind of soreness, not the bad kind.

Interestingly, now that I"m thinking about it, some of the triangle poses are easier on one side than the other ... going to have to make a note of which side next time .... it's different for each one.

But yes, I do agree that the stretching emphasis is on the hamstrings and groin muscles, which I make sure to focus on.
