Guest guest
w. ive been entranced with the ashtanga practice since nancy gilgoff took me to places i didnt know existed, but now aged 43 i have developed a detachment from my preferences and assumptions with regard to my practice. i may go to the mat thinking im going to do an advanced practice series, but often i dont, and find myself spending a couple of hours mainly in inversions. i am learning to trust this as being ok. oddly enough, even after months of only inversions and sitting one day and standing poses another this winter, with barely a sunsalutaion to be seen when i again started doing primary series my stamina was 100%. more advanced series flexibility was maybe a little less but all poses that could be done before could still be done fine with maybe a little more sweat and a little less nonchalance, whether flexibility (ekapadasirsasan cycle) or strength/stamina (advanced a armbalance cycle) was involved. i interpret this, and previous similar experiences, as meaning that openings that are well established are easy to maintain. but maybe that wont prove to be so in another 40 years time, but i wouldnt be surprised if i dont have the evidence to hand as my preference is more and more to sit in full lotus and do as little as possible while there. but thats me....
