Guest guest
I am new to the practice of ashtanga and need some advice about the pros and cons of weight lifting while practicing yoga. I have lifted somewhat consistently for years, so of course I am much less flexible than I desire to be. Should I "shuck" lifting, or does it have any benefits for ashtanga practice? Or should I lift and then routinely stretch right afterwards? I can tell that my increased strength from lifting has helped me in certain ways and hindered me in others as I begin practicing ashtanga, but I do not want sacrifice flexibility. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
Guest guest
Imorgana

i once asked danny Paradise the same thing, would gym work help develop more strength in arms, his reply was that there was no need as in yoga you lift your body weight and that is enough.

Physiologically I gather that weight lifting shortens muscles whereas yoga lengthens them, so it would be working against oneself combining both. Guest guest
Thank you loveandlaugh for the response. It makes sense - and gives me more time to devote to ashtanga.
