Guest guest
I think Godfreydev's comment about samskaras is one of the best reasons to keep a regular consistant practise.

Coming from a meditation background into practising Ashtanga, I have hit the same flavour and intensity samskaras as when doing long sits. This I feel comes about from practising consistantly. Without regular practise these, slipery (to say the least) samskaras rule your outlook and stay in the background. When they come on strong (you no the pains, the charged emotions, wanting to run), the mind is a good tool to find any reason, not to practise.
This is I suppose the reason that if you want big experiances of self you need a teacher/Guru, to keep you going, and to guide you with their vision.

But don't let your samskaras choose them.
