Guest guest
I'm Lauren. I'm 19 and very new to Ashtanga yoga. I want to learn as much as possible about it. I'm taking an Introduction to Ashtanga class in Kansas City, Missouri. Does anyone know if there are any ashtanga classes in or around pittsburg, kansas? Or Joplin, Missouri? I would appreciate any help you would like to give me. Like, how often should I do this every day. I've been studying Iyengar, Bikram, and general hatha for about 7 years now and I just haven't made the "click" with any of them. I'm hopin ashtanga is the one for me... thanks!

Lauren "madonna_dancer"
Guest guest
It might be a bit of a drive, but you may want to
come down to Norman, Oklahoma sometime to go to
one of Andrew Eppler's classes. He is gone for the
summer until September, although classes are continuing. He is a very accomplished yogi. Schedule info is at: http://www.ionet.net/~tslade/andrew.htm
I asked him how often I should practice when I
first started. He said everyday (except Saturdays,
which are traditionally skipped in ashtanga, some
people also skip new moon and full moon days).
It can be hard to practice everyday on your own,
but you can probably do at least some yoga everyday. It helps if you can go to classes more
often or get together with one or more other people to practice. I think one reason for practicing everyday is that it keeps the stretches
going instead of letting the body try to "unstretch". It also keeps you from getting sore.
There are many good books and videos available
also. See http://www.ionet.net/~tslade/yoga.htm

Good luck,
Terry Slade
Guest guest
Hi Lauren!

I really don't have a lot of advice for you, but I wanted to offer you lots of encouragement. My daughter and I both practice astanga. She is 17 and really loves it. I think it's great to see young people like you doing yoga! And you've already been practicing for 7 years. Cool! Keep up the good work.

I practice 5-6 days a week, but everyone's different. My daughter can't do quite that much
even though all of the poses aare much easier for her than for me.
Namaste
