Guest guest
Okay, so I found somewhere in Kansas City (the Yoga Gallery) that I'm going to this sunday to take an "intro to ashtanga" class...I'm REALLY NERVOUS about this. I know I shouldn't be... but I'm really self conscious about being the "dumb one" in class that can't do anything. What do they do in this kind of class??? HELP!!!!!!!!!!

) Lauren
Guest guest
hi lauren,

chill out man! nothing wired is gonna happen there. you found this newsgroup, so you are allready on the right path.
an ashtange intro class usually is what it says: inroductory! they will show you how to breath through your nostrils with a slight contraction of your throat (called ujjayi) and than start to teach you how to combine breathing with movement (called vinyasa).
usually i'm not such a it's yoga fan, but their on-line manual is a great offering especially for beginners (thank you larry). just visit their website: http://www.itsyoga.com/manual/primary.html
here you can read about the breathing, and maybe try the sun salutations A and B. You will also find all postures as nice little animated drawings.

Even if the transformational power of ashtanga is magic, the practice is not so mystic. nothing to worry about. have fun, focus on your breath and open up to this new experience. the nervousity will disapear on it's own.

om shanti
patrick

lokah samasta sukhino bhavantu
