Guest guest
Everyone has knee problems at some point along the way in their Ashtanga Practice.

Having had these problems myself and having taught many students with these problems I would say:

1. Never push into sharp pain!
2.Use your breath (dont hold your breath) to gently move as deep as you can.
3.Dont stop practicing
4. Do extra hip openers like ankle to knee pose at other times during the day.
5. Ice is good several times a day
6. Use arnica ointment or massage oil - best brand is Weleda

It may take some time to go away.
Guest guest
I would add:

7. Don't use ibuprofen or similar. Deadening pain might allow you to push further into positions where you're doing damage. Using NSAIDs (Non-steroidal anti-inflammatories) like ibuprofen long term is bad for you in other ways too. Guest guest
And is it not also true that many knee problems actually have to do with the hip rather than the knee? The knee, being a less stable joint suffers the trauma when the hip doesn't open enough.
