Guest guest
I've never thought of Marichyasana D as easy!
It is quite true that most knee injuries probably originate from inflexibility of the hips. As we all know, the knee is a hinge joint and is designed for a relatively limited range of motion. I have been practicing about 2 years and can barely get into Padmasana - the few times that I've forced myself into it, I surely enough injured my knees. I've dealt with knee pain by BREATHING - often the pain subsides with relaxaion. That said, NEVER push yourself to the point of sharp pain - this is clearly a sign of poor alignment or a nascent injury - pain exists for a reason - attend to it respectfully with the breath. Also, quick, jerky motions put much more strain on the joints(specifically the ligaments) which cannot be loci of much increased flexibility. Ligaments connecting bone to bone (and maintaining joint integrity) are capable of minimal stretch and heal very very slowly, if at all when placed under great strain - that's just how evolution designed them.
Peace. Guest guest
I heard Guruji suggesting to use the ayurvedic ointment "Mahaarayan Tail" to a fellow with very stiff knee-joints.
