Guest guest
Hello,

I am just starting second series work, and am curious how I should be varying my routine from day to day. Since it is new to me, I want to practice it more often so I don't need a cheat sheet, and plus I need the practice. Is it recommended to do the second series several days in a row? Or every other day alternating with the primary series? Or is it all personal preference?
Guest guest
Be sure to have a teacher to work with!

When you begin with second series you start by gradually adding the new poses one by one after going through First Series and before backbends - so your practice becomes longer and more challenging. When you are about half way into second series you can start alternating between first and second series (I.e. Sun 1st, Mon 2nd, Tue 1st, Wed 2nd, Thu 1st, Fri 2nd)- and gradually add more poses until you are doing all of second series every other day. (After moondays start again with first.)

After getting this pattern steady and proficient with second, you can do 1st followed by part of 2nd on the 1st series days and only second on the second series days and gradually build up.

Avoid skipping poses: If you get to one that you can't do only practice to that point and then do backbends and Finishing Poses. (An exception may be Suptavajrasana, which most people do as well as they can and keep going)

I was told that this is the way it was taught traditionally. People who start practicing second series every day and first series only on fridays (as is done in Mysore nowadays) develop their second series faster, but also often develop problems, as far as I know. - First series is very important.
